Shawnee Indian Mission

3403 W. 53rd
Fairway, KS 66205

See the manual training school attended by Shawnee, Delaware, and other Indian children from 1839-1862. The Shawnee Mission also served as an early territorial capitol, a supply point on the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails, and as a camp for Union soldiers during the Civil War. The Mission was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968.

Visitors to the twelve-acre site will experience the rich tapestry of three historic buildings, period rooms and exhibits, special events, workshops, and guided tours. New exhibits in all three buildings on the site were completed in the Fall of 2006.

Field trip programs for K-8th grade. Limited programs available for high school students and adults.

To schedule a visit, call Mission staff at 913-262-0867. Visit www.kshs.org/places/shawnee/index.htm for more information.
