What's in a Name?

Creeks and Rivers

Bull Creek

Possibly named for the abundance of male buffalo in the area during the early times.

Cedar Creek

Abundance of cedar trees in the area.

Coffey/Coffee Creek

Named for A.M. Coffey, resident of Miami co; or, named for the murky coffee like color.

Indian Creek

Also named for the Indian inhabitants.

Mill Creek

A mill was most likely situated on the creek.

Negro Creek

Named for the black family that lived there or from the Spanish word for Black.

Rock Creek

Also the name of the road that ran from Westport to the mission.

Tomahawk Creek

Formerly Easton Creek, could be named for the Indian inhabitants or for the Tommyhawk family that lived in the area.

Turkey Creek

Turkeys could be found in the area.

Wolf Creek

Named for the large amount of wolves in the area.
