V. R. Ellis

V. R. Ellis is a native of Virginia, born July 2nd, 1833. His parents emigrated to Ind. In ’35, where the subject of this sketch remained on the same farm until he removed to this county in ’57. He settled in Gardner Township, on his present homestead, which he secured under the homestead law. In august ’57, he married Mrs. Mary Glover, of Rush county, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Ellis have a pleasant and comfortable home, a view of which will be seen on page 67 of this work. It is seldom that any one enters their home that cannot testify to their hospitality. He is a thrifty farmer, and his neighbors say that he keeps his farm implements brighter, and in better condition than those of any other farmer in the county. He claims that if he had not taken good care of his implements, he would today be a poor man. In ’73 he was elected to the office of Co. Commissioner, which position he now holds. He owns a good stock farm, well improved.
