Doctress C. A. Dayton

Doctress C. A. Dayton was born in Herkimer, N. Y., in 1815. Her maiden name was Celia A. Herbert. In ’31, at the early age of sixteen, she was united in marriage to A. M. Dayton. Having received instruction in anatomy, physiology and obstetrics from a retired physician, Dr. John E. Todd, Mrs. Dayton commenced the practice of medicine among her own sex in ’38. In order to qualify herself for a more general practice of her profession, she attended medical lectures in ’56. Doctress Dayton came to Spring Hill Jan. 27, ’59, and commenced the practice of her profession immediately. Her only child, Dr. Eugene Dayton, was killed in ’62 by Quantrel’s men, soon after he was honorably discharged from the army, in which he enlisted in ’61. She owns a large farm adjoining Spring Hill.
