J. A. Davies
J. A. Davies was born in South Wales in 1820, came to the U. S. in ’35, located in Rhode Island, and was united in marriage to Miss Rachael M. Fisk, in 1851. After residing in New York State for four years, he came to Kansas, (in ’56) locating in Leavenworth city. ON the 20th day of Sept., ’56, he with 70 others was driven out of the city and Territory, for holding Free State views. The following spring he and others returned to Leavenworth; public sentiment having changed they were cordially received by the Free State party. In ’57 he located north of McCamish Township, in this county, and was elected one of the board of county supervisors, receiving his commission from Gov. Denver. All friends around McCamish, Lanesfield and Gardner will remember him as Dr. Davies. In ’59 he went to Illinois, and at the present writing is located in Wyandotte, Kansas. In ’61 he enlisted company F., 14 Ill. Vol., was wounded at the battle of Shiloh, and in’63 was discharged on account of disability.
