C. A. Cornatzer
C. A. Cornatzer is a native of N. C.; born in 1827; came to Indian Territory in ’50; engaged as a laborer on the Methodist mission farm; and Nov. 15th ’55, contrary to the customs of the times he married a white lady, Miss Emily Smith, a Quaker, and in ’57 located on his present homestead. In ’56 he was arrested by the Sheriff of this county, Isaac Parish, and confined in the Lecompton Jail, one day, for aiding and abetting the Free State cause. He had early espoused the cause, and was known to have voted for Jim Lane. He is a man of strict integrity; exceedingly fond of reading; is a close observer of natures works; has an excellent memory; remarkable faculty for telling a story well, and is surrounded by a pleasant family of six children.
