Thomas Carroll
Thomas Carroll was born in the city of Cork, Ireland. He removed to the United States in 1845, spending one year in the employ of a farmer on Staten Island. Coming west the following year, he located at Columbus, Ohio, where he engaged in mercantile pursuits for several years. Again in ’57 he immigrated westward, and finally located on his present homestead in Gardner Township, where he expects to live and die; fully satisfied that few countries possess so many advantages, and none the endearing associations. His comfortable residence and beautiful grove of forest timber are the result of his own industry. Declining years find him enjoying the comforts of a life of energy and economy; known and respected as one of the many hardy pioneers whose patriotic zeal and brave endurance sealed the present happy destiny of Kansas. A fitting example of what a life of unceasing industry may accomplish.
