Roswell Allen
Roswell Allen, born in Orleans county, N. Y. in 1822; emigrated to Illinois in ’40; in ’47 enlisted and went to Mexico under Col. Alton R. Easton; after 17 months’ service was discharged at Independence, Mo, and returned to Clinton co. Ills. In ’49 he married Miss Clarissa Bradshaw; they have a family of three sons and four daughters, all at home. In ’61 he went to Colorado and engaged in mining with quartz mill until ’64, when he went to Montana and engaged in gulch digging; returned home in ’65, and soon after came to Kansas and located in Johnson co. He owns a large tract of fine land, well improved, and altogether he is a prosperous farmer and a valuable citizen—economical, yet upright in his dealings and a friend to the friendless. A view of his residence will be seen on page 89 of this work.
